Recommended Reading #1 - How to keep your Volkswagen alive - John Muir

Hey Folks,

So for the first recommended reading post on FixMyDub, I felt it would be best to use one of the most useful books for restoring classic Volkswagens (VWs, Vee-dubs, VDubs)

How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive 19 Ed:
A Manual of Step-by-Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot

It is incredible to imagine how many air cooled VWs that this book has kept from an early grave down at the local scrappy. It's also funny to think how many 'compleat idiots' this book has armed with the skills needed to go mano-a-mano with one of these vehicles.

Anybody who is possibly considering of buying a classic air cooled VW and is anything short of an expert should consider buying this book before even going to view a prospective purchase because this book takes the reader through the whole process, from what to look for on the rustbucket you have just unearthed in someones shed, to what to take with you on a long road trip. (pretty much a spare engine....)

John Muir is an absolute legend among VW fans and this book is testament to that; The book truly is a carbon copy of a man whose passion for this scene and it's followers shines through every single word on every single page and every little cartoon diagram! I cannot possibly do this book justice in a quick review on here, you must simply buy it and see for yourself.

To end this recommendation, I think it would be adequate to quote the man himself:

"I am a man, engineer, mechanic, lover-feeler who has worked and felt with cars of all descriptions for many years...While the levels of the human entity are many and varied, your car operates on one simple level and it's up to you to understand it's trip."
John Muir - How to keep your volkswagen alive.

If you want to grab yourself a copy of this book, I would recommending purchasing off Amazon, as this usually seems to be the best price.

Thanks for reading people, I will have more very soon!

Ciao!
